As far as things are in this city..

It could go either way.

What I mean by this is that there's two camps around town these days:

The first being the retro-rock genre scene. It's all about the past in the least intersting sense..It's a scene that rejects experimenting in all it's forms - intentionally void and bereft of any and all imagination and progress.

It IS howvwer, a very safe place to be. If all your friends are in Joe-Rock bands and involve themselves in music styles that are as bland as a bag of walnuts, then atleast you'll have a pre-formed social scene to connect with. One filled with other people like themselves - not very passionate about creating music - who may also be there mainly for the same dim and familiar social hanger-ons.

Now the other crowd is a different kettle of fish altogether...

This is a growing scene of musician's open to cutting edge conceptualism and anything and everything that's new..That's cutting edge. It's a crowd that embraces noise, electronics, guitar EXPERIMENTATION! (not just punk chords) as well as vivid and intangible intense sound. There are as many (from what I can tell) of these bands , as there are of the aforementioned walnut-eating set.

But bear in mind, the joe-rockers generate no excitement - and therefore leave the door WIDE OPEN for change and .....The future.

The Time is now.

Or else fall into a thousand years of Rockabilly and Ska fueled darkness.
